LKBEN11514: You need to delete a shortcut from the desktop with a powershell script


Symptom

You want to delete a link (*.lnk) file but need to check if it exists first

Cause

Sometimes needed for software distribution

Solution

This can be done with the following script:

##this will check for a file and delete it if present

$fileToCheck = "C:\Users\Public\Desktop\Acrobat Reader DC.lnk"

if(test-path $fileToCheck -PathType leaf)
{
 remove-item -Path $fileToCheck
}
