LKBEN11504: Upgrade from 18.04.05 LTS to 20.04.02 LST


Symptom

You would like to upgrade but your apt dist-upgrade does not work

Cause

You would like to upgrade your Kubuntu/Ubuntu system to a newer release

Solution

First you need to make shure you do have the latest release by doing the following:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

Normally you would execute "sudo apt dist-upgrade" but this does not work!

In this case you execute the following command:

sudo update-manager -d

You can also use:

sudo do-release-upgrade -d

 

You should see something like the following dialog:

Follow the instructions, you need to reboot etc.
