LKBEN11212: How to change and increase the size of a type in postgesql


Symptom

You need to increase the size of a type in postgres sql

Cause

The column might be to small to store your varchar data

Solution

You can do this with the alter table command. Here an example:

alter table clients alter column server type character varying(255);

The general command is:

alter table TABLENAME alter column COLUMNNAME type character varying(255);

This can be used to change your varchar from a smaller to a bigger size.
