LKBEN11045: Posix error 12: Cannot allocate memory

Symptom

You get the error message: Cannot allocate memory

Cause

none

Solution

This error can have my causes.

Hier you see a few of the messages you might get:

e.g. mmap: Cannot allocate memory
e.g. /bin/ps: Cannot allocate memory
e.g. Linux Error: 12: Cannot allocate memory
e.g. mount error: 12: Cannot allocate memory
e.g. cpio: read error: Cannot allocate memory (not the same!)

To troubleshoot this kind of message you should look for disk space, memory usage, swap space, forking speed of subprocesses, ... and eventually boot a

rescue CD and test your memory. (just to make shure your hardware is ok)

Are you using a swapfile?

If you are mounting a windows filesystem on your linux system, check your eventviewer on the windows site! You might try to play with
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\IRPStackSize but do this on your own risk!

If you are using a Macintosh checking your proxy settings might help! (deactivate the checkbox for automatic proxy settings!)
