LKBEN10983: Howto recode a file from windows to unix or linux

Symptom

You have a windows file and want to recode it to linux. The problem is the CR / LF difference between the OSes

Cause

This is by design

Solution

Windows uses the CR/LF (carrige return line feed) from line to line in a file. To recode a file you have from windows, you can use the recode command.

recode msdos..latin1 testfile.txt

This will recode the file "testfile.txt" and change the coding from msdos (which is windows) to latin1 (which is used under linux)
