LKBEN10970: Howto number lines automatically


Symptom

You would like a file to have filenumbers

Cause

none

Solution

You can use the nl command. This command numbers the lines. (empty lines are skipped)

lsof | nl

This will show you all the open files on a linux system and number them.

cat /etc/ftpusers | nl

Will show you the ftpusers number from the beginning.
