LKBEN11724: How to flush the dns cache on MacOS.


Symptom

You need to flush the dns cache on your Mac.

Cause

Sometimes this needs to be done for troubleshooting e.g. after editing your /etc/hosts file.

Solution

On MacOS you open a terminal window. In the terminal you type in the following:

#flush the cache
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache

#restart your DNS responder
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
