Solution

On Linux you use ping for ipv4 and ping6 for ipv6. Here an example to check an ipv6 connection to an ipv6 server.

#ping your own client (link local)
ping6 localhost

#ping an ipv6 server
ping6 servername

#ping the same server with a FQDN
ping6 servername.domainname.com

Hope this help.
