LKBEN11670: How to change the maximum password age with the local security policy.


Symptom

You need to set the maximum password to a different value.

Cause

The default value of 42 is too low.

Solution

Open a cmd as administrator and open the local security policy editor.

secpol.msc

On an english systen, navigate to Account Policies -> Password Policy. Here you will find the following settings:

  • Enforce password history
  • Maximum password age
  • Minimum password age
  • Mimimum password legth
  • Password must meet complexity requirements
  • Store passwords using reversible encryption

To change the maximum password age you edit the value.
