LKBEN11649: How to find your MacOS version from the command line.


Symptom

You only have a terminal windows and need to know the version of your MacOS.

Cause

Solution

A simple way to find your MacOS version from the command line is:

sw_vers

You do not need root rights to run the command. The output will look like:

ProductName:	macOS
ProductVersion:	12.6.3
BuildVersion:	21G419
