Symptom
You need to reboot a server or a workstation from the command line
Cause
Sometimes a reboot is needed
Solution
To reboot a windows system from the command line you use the shutdown command with the appropriate parameters.
To reboot after 10 seconds you use:
shutdown /r /t 10
You can also use the followind command:
shutdown /r /t 10 /m localhost
To reboot a remote system you change localhost with the computername of the system you want to reboot:
shutdown /r /t 10 /m \\computername
The remote system needs to be configured for accepting remote commands.
