When you start you get the error could not initialize openGL

The problem is a Plugin called Welcome

First you start qtcreator with the parameter -noload Welcome

qtcreator -noload Welcome

When the IDE opens you go to the help menu, select About Plugins, go to Welcome and uncheck this plugin.

Now you are able to start just by using qtcreator on the commandline or start it from the GUI.
