Symptom
You want to install software from testing on stable but stable should be the default.
Cause
none
Solution
This can be done by creating a file anc dropping it in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/
e.g. I made a file calles 10debconfwim with the contents:
APT::Default-Release "stable";
APT::Cache-Limit "16777216";
Now you can install software from testing with:
apt-get install -t unstable packagename
e.g.
The Java EE 5 Application Server Glassfish is only in testing. This J2EE environment can be installed on stable with the command:
apt-get install -t unstable glassfish-appserv
