LKBEN10886: How to change the background of the Windows Vista and Windows 7 Logon-Screen

Symptom

You want to change the background from the logon screen.

Cause

Solution

Here are the steps:

  1. Create  a background image with the name: "backgroundDefault.jpg" and a maximum size of 256 KByte.
  2. Copy the file to "C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds"
  3. Open the registry (regedit.exe) and go to the section:
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background"
  4. Create a entry "OEMBackground" (DWORD (32Bit) with the value "1"
  5. reboot the system
