LKBEN11197: Howto install Debian 6 via netinst with KDE

Symptom

You would like to install debian 6 from the netinst CD but install the KDE destkop environment instead of gnome

Cause

Debian defaults to gnome

Solution

You can of course download the debian-6.0.0-i386-kde-CD-1.iso file and burn it on CD but if you have the netinst CD you can install KDE at once.

Do a normal base installation without Desktop Environment. You will find yourself booting into shell mode. Logon and enter:

apt-get update
apt-get install kdm plasma-desktop --fix-missing
