You need background information about a package which is already installed

Cause

This is always interesting information

Solution

You can use the aptitude command with the show parameter.

e.g.  aptitude show galternatives

This command delivers the following information:

Paket: galternatives
Zustand: Installiert
Automatisch installiert: nein
Version: 0.12ubuntu1
Priorität: optional
Bereich: universe/admin
Verwalter: Gustavo Noronha Silva <kov@debian.org>
Unkomprimierte Größe: 250k
Hängt ab von: python (< 2.5), python (>= 2.4), python-glade2
Empfiehlt: gksu
Kollidiert mit: gksu (< 0.8.0)
