LKBEN10929: Howto activate RDP access on a windows xp client

Symptom

You need to connect to a windows xp client with the RDP protocol

Cause

This is by design

Solution

To connect to a windows xp client system with the remote desktop protocol you need to activate it first.

To turn on Remote Desktop you right-click on My Computer, click Properties, and then click the Remote tab. Turn on Remote Desktop by selecting the check box Allow users to remotely connect to this computer. Designate users by clicking the Select Remote Users... button.

To connect you can use the mstsc utility.

e.g. mstsc /v:10.10.10.10

In the above example the ip address of the remote client is 10.10.10.10. You can use dns names to look up the ip address for you. When you do not specify parameters, a GUI is presented to you. This might be easier for certain users.
