LKBEN10919: Howto check the status of your server roles and install a new one on a windows 2008 server core-installation

Symptom

You have a windows server 2008 core server and need to install a new role or check the status of them

Cause

none

Solution

With server core you do not have a gui (graphical user interface) and you need to fall-back to the command line. To check your roles you use the oclist command. e.g.

oclist

This will show you an overview of all installed and also "not installed" roles.

To install a certain role you use the ocsetup command. e.g.

start /w ocsetup DNS-Server-Core-Role

You do not need the start /w in front of it, it is used to launch another command line and wait after the command has been executed. With oclist you can get an overview of available roles and features.
