LKBEN10711: Which HKEY_USERS - Hive belongs to a certain user?

Symptom

All local profiles are stored under a SID under HKEY_USERS - how to figure out the username

Cause

Operating System Windows uses SID, not username

Solution

If you need to find out which hive under HKEY_USERS belongs to a certain username, just look under this key:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-..........\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

Here you'll find the username after "Documents and Settings" inside the profile definitions.

Second option: just use "find..." context in registry editor on HKEY_USERS (it just might take a little...).
