LWE10302 : Howto know if desktop heap size allocation failed?

Symptom:

You would like to know if desktop heap exhaustion is the cause of your problems on terminal server. (with or without citrix)

Cause:

none

Solution:

Check if the following key has been set in your registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Value name: DesktopHeapLogging
Value data: 1
Type: REG_DWORD

Now you can check in your eventlog (eventvwr) for the warning ID 243 in the system tree.

Event Source: Win32k
Event Category: None
Event ID: 243
Date: date
Time: time
User: N/A
Computer: server name
Description:
A desktop heap allocation failed.

Please note that this event will only be logged once during a session!
