LWE10115 : Ordner Redirection does not work properly in Windows XP and active directory

Symptom:

You get eventlog ID 301 as warning in eventviewer (eventvwr)

Cause:

Microsoft changed the XP logon to the "Fast Logon Optimization"

Solution:

When logon optimization is on, a user may need to logon on multiple times before the folder redirection works. This is also the case for software installation policies. This is a result of the fact that Microsoft tried to make Windows XP look faster than windows 2000.  The policies are applied Asynchronous instead of Synchronous at Startup and Log on.

You can see in the event log file the following entry:

Event Type: warning
Event Source: Folder Redirection
Event Category: none
Event ID: 301
Description: Folder redirection policy application has been delayed until the next logon because the group policy logon optimization is in effect.

The resolution is to turn of the "Fast Logon Optimization" with a GPO or policy. This can be found under

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon.
