LLE10089 : Howto set the time under linux from the command line

Symptom:

You need to set the time

Cause:

none

Solution:

You can use the command date to set the time.

To set the time to 22:20 you can use the following command:

date -s "22:20"

If you get the following message "date: cannot set date: Operation not permitted" then you do not have enough permissions to set the time. Login as root or use su or sudo to execute the command.

date -s "22:20"
Wed Jun 18 22:20:00 CEST 2008
