LKBEN10960: Howto create a tar gz file from a directory


Symptom

You need to create a tar gz file for creating an archive or for copying to another system

Cause

none

Solution

To create a tar file of a directory structure you use the following command:

tar czvf filename.tgz directoryname

To unpack it on another system you use:

tar zxvf filename.tgz
