LKBEN11068: Howto completely uninstall a package on a debian alike system with apt-get
Symptom
You need to remove a package from your system with all settings it has
Cause
none
Solution
To completely uninstall a package you can use apt-get from the command line. To just remove or uninstall you can use the command:
apt-get remove <package>
This will leave the configuration settings on your system. In case you install the package again, you did not loose your configuration. If you want to completely remove everything from a named package you can use:
apt-get --purge remove <package>
This will remove everything for you.
