LKBEN11037: Howto change sources.list to install software from testing

Symptom

You need to install software from the testing archive

Cause

none

Solution

You need to edit /etc/apt/sources.list so your distribution can find the software archives. This can be done by copying all the lines and changing stable (or etch) into testing.

The result might look like:

# deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 r4a _Etch_ - Official amd64 CD Binary-1 20080803-21:56]/ etch contrib main

deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ etch main non-free contrib
#deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free

deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ etch main

deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib

#from here testing (Wim)
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ testing main non-free contrib
deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ testing main
deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib
