LKBEN11453: Open tcp port for sql server 2019 on windows server 2019

Symptom

You cannot connect to your sql server because the firewall blocks your connection.

Cause

This is by design.

Solution

To connect to your sql server you need to open port 1433. This can be done in an old way like this:

netsh firewall set portopening protocol = TCP port = 1433 name = SQLPort mode = ENABLE scope = SUBNET profile = CURRENT

Microsoft recommends to use the newer syntax with advfirewall.

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name = SQLPort dir = in protocol = tcp action = allow localport = 1433 remoteip = localsubnet profile = DOMAIN
