LKBEN10824: How to speed up the Windows shutdown procedure.

Symptom

You need to shutdown the system faster.

Cause

To speedup the shutdown of your Windows.

Solution

A quick shudown of your Windows is prevented by the running tasks in your memory. Windows tries to quit all tasks for 20 seconds before shutting down. If you don't want to wait this long you can alter the following regkey to speed things up.

First click start -> run -> regedit

Search for the entry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control"

Locate the key "WaitToKillServiceTimeout".

Normally this key has the value 20000 (20 sec.). You can minimize the value down to 1 (1 milisec.) for real quick systems. But i would suggest a value of 2000 (2 sec.) would be adequate.
